Early Years Curriculum

The early years are the most formative years in a child’s life. Children explore the world around them, learn skills for socializing, develop positive relationships and learn to communicate in different of situations. In the Early Years Department at Canon Andrea Mwarka School, we believe that children need a solid foundation on which all future learning can be based.

The basics of Montessori are applied in Nursery and Reception. We provide an environment in which children will thrive. All of our teachers are encourage to grow in their understanding of early years education and consider that Montessori Early Years believes that:

  1. Each child is deserving of respect in an environment that accommodates to each child’s individual strengths and capabilities.
  2. Every child is entitled to a positive learning environment based on each child’s developmental level, strengths, needs, interests and experiences and values each child as an individual
  3. Each child is deserving of respect that cherishes creative ideas and expressions.
  4. Create a happy and nurturing environment where children feel comfortable to discover and achieve their full potential.
  5. Help children develop self-confidence and self esteem.
  6. Enhance concentration skills and establish good work habits.
  7. Allow children to discover the joy of learning
  8. Stimulate growth by using materials and activities that encourage each child to explore, learn and solve problems
  9. Develop essential social skills through critical thinking, independence and cooperation.

Primary School

Primary level (1 - 6) develops and expands on the knowledge and experiences that our children have already gained during their time in Early Years.

We provide a caring, safe, and stimulating environment where your child is encouraged to become self-confident and a self-disciplined learner.

In Primary, positive learning behaviours such as resiliency, independence, self-motivation and curiosity are taught, modelled and promoted to our pupils. This learning behaviours allow our children to take control of their learning and engage in the wide range of subjects on offer. Not only do our pupils have high-quality teaching in the core subjects, such as maths, English, science and humanities, but they also experience weekly art and design, ICT, music, PE, languages and swimming lessons.
